Photos of Downtown Denver

If you follow this moveddenver.com real estate blog, you have probably noticed that I attempt to incorporate photos of Denver and the suburbs in my posts rather than rely on stock photography. I want to go beyond showing the bricks and mortar and show the Colorado lifestyle.

Recently a friend who knows I enjoy photos connected me via Facebook to a photographer friend of hers in the United Kingdom.  Low and behold, this photographer spent time in Colorado last spring shooting from downtown Denver all the way to Manitou Springs.

James Kelly of flowingenglish captured some amazing shots and he is graciously allowing me to post them on moveddenver.com.  I’ll start out posting a few of James’s black and white and sepias but watch for more to come.

A bit about the man behind the lens:

James is a teacher and photographer from England who has a degree in English Literature and Language from Leeds and Cambridge Universities. Passions beyond teaching and photography include reading, writing and playing the violin.  Oh, and his girlfriend lives in our very own Centennial so he is considering a move to Denver. Hint – if anyone knows of a nice career for James here locally…you get the idea.

Denver Real Estate: Lone Tree Colorado

Lone Tree is a lovely neighborhood – offering upper-end and well-manicured homes in Douglas County – a southern suburban area of Denver.  Located minutes from the Denver Technological Center, Inverness Business Park and the Sky Ridge Medical Center, make it an ideal choice for executives and medical personnel alike.

The Lone Tree Golf Club and Hotel, operated by South Suburban Parks and Recreation Systems, is lined with executive style single family homes and condominiums.  Both types of housing can also be found in the newer area called RidgeGate.

The Vistas at Park Meadows Mall

The Vistas at Park Meadows Mall, located in Lone Tree CO., is a well designed open-air mall.  It a refreshing change for those of us non-shopping types who like the convenience of dashing in and out of a shop quickly.  The easy access to the many restaurants also makes this a nice choice for dining – at least if there is a wait, one can enjoy the surrounding beauty of the courtyard.

Denver Historic Buildings

Denver Co. is home to a surprisingly diverse collection of historic buildings. These photos represent some of my favorites as they capture a wide-range of some of Denver’s most interesting architectural styles:

Please check out the National Register for additional information on each photo as well as the Denver architect behind the creation.

Side note: The photo of the Denver Public Library also includes the seven-story addition which was completed in 1995.

Denver Home Architectural Styles: Denver Square

 Denver Home Styles Denver Square

Photo credits: A big thank you to Johnathan J. Stegeman

Denver Squares, aka American Foursquares, are plentiful throughout Denver neighborhoods. The Silver Crash of 1889 called on simpler times.  As a result, the Denver Square replaced many of the opulent homes in the Victorian era as the home style of choice.

The photo reveals the abundance of varieties within the basic Square which vary by price, neighborhood and added adornments.

The Square in the upper left photo brings additional features found in the Classical revival period.  In the upper right corner, an added tower graces the basic Denver Square.  Each photo on the bottom captures the essence of the typical Foursquare.

Dominant features found in the Denver Foursquare:

Cubed or boxy shaped structure

Dormer window centered on the roof

Pyramidal shaped, hipped roof

Broad porch surrounded by columnar supports

An “open floor-plan” when compared to its Victorian era predecessor

Usually 2-stories

Typically 4 rooms upstairs and 4 rooms downstairs

Where to find Denver Squares in Denver neighborhoods:

Cheesman Park, Capitol Hill (northern section), Country Club, Platt Park, Washington Park, and Uptown.

Feel free to contact me to assist you in selling or purchasing a Denver Square.
